Jakarta – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in Indonesia in August 2024 reached 7.47 million people. This figure is equivalent to a TPT of 4.91 percent.
“This figure is lower when compared to the same period the previous year, even lower if we compare it with the TPT before the Covid-19 pandemic in August 2019 which reached 5.23 percent,” said Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti in a press conference Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
She detailed, based on gender, the number of unemployed men was 4.90 percent, down 0.52 percentage points from the previous year. Meanwhile, female unemployment was 5.92 percent, down 0.23 percentage points.
In addition, based on the region, the number of unemployed people in villages was recorded to have increased. However, there was a decrease in urban areas. The TPT in rural areas in August 2024 amounted to 3.67 percent yoy, compared to the previous year’s 3.88 percent.
Meanwhile, the TPT in urban areas in August 2024 amounted to 5.79 percent yoy, or decreased compared to the same period the previous year which amounted to 6.40 percent.
