Jakarta – Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto admits that the 8 percent economic growth target in his future government is ‘questioned at’ by many parties. Even so, he is optimistic that he can achieve this figure.
“So, I am often mocked, Prabowo, what is this 8 percent growth. It’s okay to be mocked,” Prabowo said as a speaker at the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2024 event at the Jakarta Convention Center, Wednesday (9/10/2024).
According to him, all the ridicule that came to him did not discourage him. Prabowo, who has a military background, also learned a lot from the proclamator Bung Karno.
“I learned from Bung Karno, the Proclamator. He once said hang your aspirations as high as the sky, if you don’t reach the sky, you fall among the stars,” he explained.

“I launched 8 percent, if not up to 8 percent, then 7.5 percent. If not up to 7.5 percent, then 7 percent. If we are satisfied, we declare 6 percent, later 5.3 percent, never mind,” he added.
Then, he also compared the target with his aspirations since he was young, who had wanted to become a general.
He admitted that he finally achieved this goal and achieved the rank of general through hard work.
“Brothers and sisters, since I was young, I wanted to be a general, not a colonel, I wanted to be a general. But I didn’t sit under a tree and ask for stars to fall on me. I worked, I wanted to be a four-star, so I got three stars, in the end I got four stars from Mr. Jokowi,” he explained.

Therefore, Prabowo advised the younger generation to never be afraid to aspire. If you fall, you must get up and get up again.
He is also optimistic that the 8 percent economic growth target can be achieved, and can even reach 9 percent.
“What about 9 percent? Wait for the play date,” he concluded.
On various occasions, Prabowo believes that he can achieve economic growth of up to 8 percent in the 2-3 years of his government.
In achieving this figure, his party will focus on the availability of food for the community. After that, focus on energy security and self-sufficiency.
8 Percent Economic Challenge
CORE Executive Director Mohammad Fasial said, to achieve this economic target, Prabowo has a number of homework (homework) to boost the national economy. Given, the target is higher than the growth target in the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) at the level of 6.5 – 7 percent.
“Mr. Prabowo is targeting an 8 percent economy, in reality this year the predicted range is 4.9-5 percent, so it has not changed much compared to the last 10 years of Jokowi’s administration and this needs to be anticipated risk,” Faisal said in the CORE Indonesia 2024 Midyear Review, some time ago.
For this reason, Prabowo needs to have a breakthrough or new strategy in his policies that can boost the domestic economy. This is because global conditions are still uncertain and the domestic economy is not very safe.
“Because it is certain that if you use the same method, the incident will also be the same in terms of economic growth, it will only be 5 percent, as we predicted this year,” he said. (*)
