Jokowi: Indonesia Emas 2045 Needs Strong and Courageous Leaders

Jakarta – Indonesia will reach a golden age in 2045, right after 100 years of independence. At that time, Indonesia is targeted to become a developed country and equal to superpowers.

Although this historic momentum is still about a quarter of a century away. However, to realize it requires careful preparation in advance. One of them is good execution skills.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that the Indonesia Emas 2045 can be achieved with good planning and followed by good execution skills.

“To achieve Indonesia Emas 2045 requires good smart execution,” Jokowi said while attending the launch of Indonesia Emas 2045 at Djakarta Theater, Central Jakarta, Thursday, June 15, 2045.

According to Jokowi, to achieve good execution capabilities, a qualified leader is needed. They must be brave and good at finding solutions, most importantly having big guts in leading the Indonesian state.

“It must also be followed by smart leadership and strong leadership to achieve the Indonesia Emas 2045,” he explained.

Jokowi assessed that the ability to execute and good leadership is what can continue development in the country so as to achieve Indonesia Emas 2045.

“There must be sustainability and continuity. If you have reached the first, second, third to high school, you should continue to university. Don’t go back to elementary school,” he explained.

Interestingly, Jokowi likened leadership to a baton. The former Solo mayor does not want leadership to be like a gas station meter.

“Leadership is like a baton, not a gas station meter. If the gas station meter starts from zero. Do we want to be like that? No, don’t we? It’s like a gas station meter,” Jokowi said.

The Importance of Maintaining National Stability
Not to forget, Jokowi also mentioned the importance of maintaining national stability so that Indonesia can become a developed country in 2045. According to him, no country in the world has achieved prosperity when its country is divided and unstable.

“There will be no developed country if it is divided. Continuous chaos will not be able to achieve prosperity,” he said.
In addition, Indonesia-centric development is important. Jokowi mentioned downstreaming, which is the focus of the current government.

“Industrial downstreaming is very important. This is what will leapfrog Indonesia if downstreaming is successful,” he explained.

He gave an example, building a mineral downstream and battery EV ecosystem. How Indonesia only exports raw products.

“So far, we have only exported raw materials such as nickel, even though it can be a precursor, it can be a lithium battery,” he said.(*)
