JCI Opens Lower Following Ministerial Reshuffle

Jakarta — The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) opened at 7,751.32 this morning, down 0.20 percent at the opening of trading at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (9/9).

According to RTI Business statistics, 633.49 million shares were traded today, with 63 thousand transactions and a total value of Rp873.97 billion.

Then, 180 stocks corrected, 149 strengthened, and 279 remained unchanged.

Phintraco Sekuritas management had predicted that the JCI would experience technical fluctuations in the range of 7,800–7,970 today.

“In the short term, the JCI is expected to continue its correction and test the support level at 7,630–7,650,” Phintraco Management said in its Jakarta research on September 9, 2025.

The JCI closed at 7,766.85 on Monday (9/8), down 1.28 percent. This market reaction was due to concerns about uncertainty and changes in economic policy.

“Investors are expected to pay close attention to the policies that the new officials will pursue, to see if they are in line with market expectations and will have a positive impact on the economy,” it added.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserves fell from USD 152 billion in July 2025 to USD 150.7 billion in August 2025.

Though this is the lowest level in nine months, the reserves remain solid, as they can still finance 6.3 months of imports or 6.1 months of imports and debt payments.

The decline in foreign exchange reserves was due to foreign debt payments and Bank Indonesia’s (BI) efforts to stabilize the rupiah amid global money market fluctuations.

Meanwhile, motorcycle sales grew 0.7 percent year over year (YoY) in August 2025, improving from July 2025, when sales declined 2 percent YoY.

This was the first annual increase in four months, in line with the decline in the BI rate. (*)
